Who is Jesus?

In the Bible, God’s letter to humanity, it says that “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). God loves this world and everyone in it, and he wants us to know him. But the Bible also says that sin separates us from God. Mankind is imperfect, at times we think say and do things that are wrong. The Bible says that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

God gave an answer to this problem in the person and work of Jesus. In John 14:6 Jesus says “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” We believe that Jesus is all he says that he is, that he lived a perfect life in the face of temptations, suffered and died for all of our sin, and rose again. Jesus is God the Son who came to give God’s gift of salvation — forgiveness, a relationship with God and a future in heaven. The Bible says that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

What do we do with what Jesus did?

Just like with any true gift we have the opportunity to accept what Jesus did for our life. There is no amount of work we can do to earn God’s favor, to gain what he did for us. We just accept it. The Bible says “it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

The first step in following Jesus is to believe, to accept his gift. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). If you have made this decision, or if you have questions that you need answered we would love you to contact us.
